The hazards, PPE, safety equipment, documents, emergency procedures and machine guards listed in the RSOS.
What this covers
This page collects the safety-related lists from Task A-1 (safety-related functions) and the guards listed in Task A-2 (maintaining tools and equipment). The RSOS names these items but does not describe how each one works. Learn the lists and what category each item belongs to.
Hazards

- Safety measures against environmental hazards follow environmental regulations. Safety measures against other hazards follow jurisdictional safety regulations.
- Hazardous materials are handled, stored and disposed of according to environmental regulations.
- Ventilation for finishing follows both jurisdictional safety regulations and environmental regulations.
- The RSOS also expects knowledge of the health hazards of handling solvents, adhesives and lacquer thinners (A-2.04).
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
PPE includes: respiratory equipment, ear protection, hand protection, eye protection, safety footwear, hard hats, fall protection, vest, coveralls/aprons.
- Select PPE according to the task, and adjust it for proper fit.
- Recognize worn or damaged PPE and replace it.
- Store and maintain PPE according to jurisdictional safety regulations. PPE regulations include OH&S, and employer and installation site policies.
- Know the maintenance schedules and certification requirements for PPE and safety equipment.

Documents and emergency procedures
- Documents: safety data sheets (SDS), OH&S regulations, manufacturers' specifications of tools and supplies, safety meeting documents.
- Emergency procedures: evacuation, fire drills, first aid procedures, lock-down drills.
- Regulatory knowledge: WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) requirements; workers' rights and responsibilities; training requirements; electrical, fire and safety regulations; OH&S requirements.
Machine guards and lockout

- Guards are set up (or used) and maintained according to manufacturers' specifications, to prevent injury.
- Every A-2 sub-task (A-2.01 to A-2.04) includes applying lockout and tagout procedures according to jurisdictional (safety) regulations and site policies.
