The hardware categories, selection considerations, adhesives and fasteners listed in the RSOS for selecting hardware, adhesives and fasteners.
What this covers
This page collects the hardware, adhesive and fastener lists from Task A-4 (sub-tasks A-4.05 Selects hardware and A-4.06 Selects adhesives and fasteners), and the hardware list from A-3.04 (layout). The RSOS lists these categories but does not describe individual products.
Hardware
- Cabinet, furniture and architectural hardware (A-3.04) includes: hinges, slides, locks, pulls.
- Specialty hardware (A-4.05) includes: electronic hardware. Specialty hardware is evaluated against project specifications.
Selection considerations (A-4.05)

- Hardware must meet project specifications.
- A hardware take off is done from the drawings and design so that enough hardware is in stock and on order.
- In prototyping (A-4.03), prototypes and hardware are tested and modified according to manufacturing and client requirements.
Adhesives
Adhesives include: contact cement, wood glues, resin, hot-melt glue.
- First determine the project materials required, then the adhesives compatible with those materials.
- Considerations for selecting adhesive include: customer specifications, strength, project considerations, availability, price. Selection also follows industry standards.
- Knowledge includes adhesives used for substrates and edge treatment.
- Adhesives also appear in the RSOS as a hazardous material (A-1.01) and as a supply (A-4.01).
Fasteners
Fasteners include: biscuits, staples, screws, nails, anchors.
- Fasteners that suit the application are determined and selected according to industry standards.
